Project For A New Mythology Volume 3 Issue 1

It’s not perfect. But then nothing is, is it? After much hair pulling and gnashing of teeth, the new issue is finally up and ready to go.

The big lesson I learned with this issue is that I simply need a faster, more powerful computer to handle all the requirements for this type of hybrid publication. I’m sure I could do it all on my Mac, but I am one of those people who truly needs to compartmentalize to survive. My Mac is my primary writing tool. So, a separate computer is a necessity for the magazine. Unfortunately, the second computer I have is maxed out with a 500Mhz processor and only 160 MB of RAM. It practically makes chugging noises when it isn’t freezing up. It was a good little computer once upon a time and, unlike the old IBM Selectric II and the Dell NX20 I once had, I won’t be getting rid of it when I upgrade. I’m hoping that once it’s stripped down and running a very basic set of programs, there might still be some mojo left in it.

Anyway, back to the point of this missive. Here is the new issue of The Project for A New Mythology. Each contributor has their own PDF. Originally, there was a plan to have a PDF with all pieces compiled into one. However, it turns out the layout used allows for each PDF to be read easily on your computer, or printed out, folded, and stapled.

As I’m sure you can tell, I’m not a professional web designer, or even electronic publisher. . . Yet. I’m learning as I go. My positive spin on all of this is that it’s “21st Century Hand-Made.” And, ultimately, what’s most important is the writing.

Artists and writers of previous generations had photocopiers, mimeograph machines, letterpress printers, and a strong dollar. Artists and writers of my generation, and future generations, have computers and desktop publishing software. In the end, however, I think we achieve the same thing. Or at least I think we do.

I hope you enjoy the stories and poems available on the website. If you notice anything odd or strange, like page numbers in the wrong place, something out of line, or something misspelled, shoot me an email and I’ll get it fixed as soon as I can (with the chugging pc, it may take a few days).

That is the best thing about 21st Century Hand-Made, we can fix it on the fly.
