Big Things and Quietude

The Project for a New Mythology is not over. It is, however, going to go through a hibernation period. The plan, as it stands now, is to change the magazine to a twice-a-year affair with the next issue coming out in March of 2008, with the second issue due out in September, 2008. So, please, continue sending in submissions. I will respond to any submissions, and any questions about the magazine and its disposition.

I hope that by going to a longer production schedule I will be able to produce a larger magazine in regards to content and a more complex magazine in regards to design and packaging.

The reason for this is that there have been a number of changes in my life. Most of these changes are requiring more time from me than I had expected, and producing a large bit of stress. I find that my time to sit, think, imagine, and ultimately create is being compromised and, consequently, I’ve begun to try to shut down and withdraw without any success because, of course, I don’t have the means yet to “take a vacation” - for lack of a better term - from the factors causing the stress. This produces a kind of frantic self-sabotage as I look for some relief from the pressure. Normally, this would not be an event to cause much concern. I’d cut off a few destructive, unhealthy relationships or habits and be back on my way. This time there are things I don’t care to lose in the process of recovering my internal balance and my drive to write. There are habits I’m trying to rewrite.

This fall I will be concentrating on my job, the one class I’ll be teaching, my writing, and my relationship with my girlfriend. Then, once things settle and resolve themselves, I will pick up the magazine again.

Marry the girl and get on with it, Quinn!

(Good luck with your hiatus. Hope you're able to resolve everything. And if she's worth it, I'm serious about the marrying thing. You don't want to be one of those chickens, right?)
